Houston: The Jags are going into Houston with the Texans as the favorite. The Texans have owned Jacksonville the past three years as the record is 6-0. Last meeting, Houston won by one as Blake was harassed all day by the D-line of the Texans as he threw for 92 yards and Zero touchdowns. Also, that was the last game for “happy Gus” he was fired as soon as the plane landed. Houston D-Line has gotten even stronger with the return of JJ Watt, which will make the Jaguars O-line a living nightmare (still have images in my head of JJ Watt with one hand moving Luke Joeckel out the city as he sacked Bortles). The key for Houston is using the running game of Lamar Miller to set up Tom Savage in the passing game. Expect a heavy dose of Lamar Miller to set up a 3rd and short for Savage to make efficient passes for their receivers (more than likely C.J. Fiedorowicz), Stopping the Jacksonville Running attack, and force turnovers on Bortles(who will turn it over at least one good time).
Jacksonville: Defense will be even better than last year and will be heavily relied upon in this game. Veteran Campbell and the defensive line will be important in this game as the Texans offensive Line (Ranked 29th by Profootball focus) will be missing Left Tackle Duane Brown. That will be a huge problem for the Texans having an efficient offensive attack and helping Tom Savage (who has never thrown a touchdown pass in the NFL). The key is going to be the O-line holding up enough for Blake to put pressure on the secondary of the Texans ( whom best corner left in free agency to the Jags) and able to slow the Defensive Line down with an efficient running attack by Leonard Fournette, Chris Ivory, and Yeldon. Defense shutting down the running attack of Lamar Miller and forcing them to depend on Tom Savage against their secondary.
Prediction…. Jacksonville 17-14. It’s about who you trust more Tom Savage ( cool last name) or Blake Bortles ( Beachbar)……. I trust Blake just a tad bit more. Both Coaches will have a similar game plan. A heavy diet of the run to minimize the turnovers of their quarterbacks. I think the Texans will make one more mistake than the Jags in this Twelve round heavyweight matchup! What are your thoughts?
